About us
At Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), we believe in the ability of Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths to effect positive change in the world and drive a sustainable international economy. SFI is the national foundation for investment in scientific and engineering research. SFI invests in academic researchers and research teams by maintaining a balanced portfolio of early and advanced research, frontiers/discovery and applied research projects that are led by individuals, small groups and large-scale research centres in order to generate new knowledge, leading-edge technologies and competitive enterprises in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). Through this funding we are ensuring that Ireland has the skills, ideas and technologies that we need to address societal challenges and become a true global knowledge economy. SFI also promotes and supports public awareness and understanding of the value of STEM to society and the economy, through many public engagement programmes that span the full breadth of the education system and include all members of the public. SFI is also ensuring a pipeline of talent in areas of future growth through innovative PhD programmes at our Research Centres, Centres for Research Training and Centres for Doctoral Training. SFI collaborates closely with both national and International funders to expand opportunities of strategic importance for Ireland.
