About us

Esri Ireland are a software and services organisation, specialising in the application of geographic information systems, or “GIS”. Our business is built on the belief that knowing where things happen matters.

As Esri'sofficial point of presence in Ireland and Northern Ireland since 2002, we have partnered with both the public and private sector to help them understand the impact of Location, Place & Geography on their business. We help customers record where things happen and analyse why, to give business insight on which to make better decisions. It's what we call #TheScienceofWhere.

Ranked as number 1 Best Workplace in Ireland 2020 (Small Category) and as a Best Workplace every year since 2016, Esri Ireland is part of the Esri Global Network, a billion-dollar privately held software company with nearly 10,000 employees worldwide.

What defines us

Esri Ireland is a listening organisation. The results from our Trust Survey are available for everyone in our team to read, fostering a spirit of transparency. We established a Great Place to Work Team that have developed a range of practices within the business to drive our internal culture. Based on direct feedback to the team and wider input from the Trust Survey, we have established a number of initiatives from Thank You Days and Suggestion Boxes, to Salary Surveys and “Esri-Versary” breakfasts.

Our “Thank You Days” provide a unique opportunity to reward our team through a raffle with a variety of prizes up for grabs. We have a dedicated “Great Place to Work Official Celebration Day” where we take time-out together and share results from the Trust Survey and our Culture Audit submission. We follow the formalities with our Annual Summer BBQ.  Esri Ireland was recognised by Great Place to Work Ireland in 2020, winning a Special Award for the Best “Great Place to Work Team.”

What inspires us

Fortunately we have many sources of inspiration to draw on.

Our customers and our people are at the heart of everything we do. Our global HQ in California was founded to help solve some of the world’s most difficult problems; supporting our customers important work with a commitment to science, sustainability, community, education, research & positive change. Locally our mission is to ensure our current and future customers understand the powerful business, environmental and social benefits of Geographic Information. We work with over 300 customers across 17 different industries and are proud to say we’ve grown from a company of 7 in 2002, to 57 employees currently.

Employee Well-Being inspires us to continuously improve our Caring Practice. Some of the ways we care for employee well-being include a comprehensive Health Insurance Package, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP Program) and an online Team Portal which can be accessed 24/7 365 days of the year.   Based on feedback from our survey, each employee now has two extra days leave a year, one to celebrate their birthday, the other to take a Wellness Day time-out or to simply bolt onto existing leave days. A further two CSR days are available for charitable work which can be used to help a charity or fundraise.

Word from the top

Since we began our Great Place to Work (GPTW) journey, we’ve grown our team from 37 employees in 2016 to 57 employees currently. We now use the GPTW model as a compass to reinforce our vision, mission and most importantly our company values. I firmly believe having a model around employee trust and the activities we engage in to support our team has facilitated greater openness, transparency and authenticity within and across the business. The Great Place to Work model has helped us to ensure that every interaction with our employees has meaning, is aligned to organisational objectives and contributes to improved business performance.

There is no doubt in my mind that our Great Place to Work mindset has had an impact and influence on how employees feel and of the loyalty they show to Esri Ireland through their passionate work ethic every day.

Career and jobs

Application tips

Our core philosophy when it comes to hiring people is one that weighs more on ‘fit’ than on ‘form’. Given our market leading position, our organisational culture & climate and our strongly held belief in the value of geographic information, it is critically important that we hire people who have a natural fit with all three of these themes.

In this way we hire people to have a career with us and not just to fulfill an immediate need. Regardless of whether a role is actively advertised, if the right person with the right aptitude is available, we’ll work to find them a suitable position in our organisation.

We invest a great deal of time in our recruitment process to ensure that new hires fit with our values and culture. We filter everything we see and hear from prospective candidates throughout the interview process, through our core values of:

  • Honesty and Integrity
  • Knowledge and Expertise
  • Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Work-life balance
Our great workplace

At Esri Ireland we pride ourselves on being a diverse, high trust organisation and our team of 57 are represented by 10 different countries; Ireland, Northern Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Kazakhstan, the US and Poland. We’ve won two Special Achievement Awards from Great Place to Work Ireland: one “Speaking Practice” Award in 2018 and more recently, we won the Great Place to Work "Best Team Award".

We have a fundamental belief in the fact that it is people that drive business, encapsulated in a people development strategy, as opposed to a people management process. One of our values is Knowledge & Expertise. We continuously invest in and support the development of our team and are committed to keeping their skills up-to-date and improving these as necessary. In our view, developing people is not just about technical skills and expertise but just as importantly it is also about developing the softer skills associated with behaviour, attitude and competency.
